What is the American Dream? It is perceived as having a big house, a nice car, having alot of money, and having a family.
In the Great Gatsby, the American dream was exactly what people think it is. Gatsby had a huge a house, he had the beautiful woman, and alot of money. He also threw alot of extravagant parties.
The question is, does money really keep people happy? Nick who was one of the characters in Gatsby did not have alot of money, but he still had people around him that made him happy. Nick saw that Gatsby was not that happy even though he had all of those nice things.
Therefore in some cases the American dream is really only being happy having people in your life that support you and that are there for you.
